Background: The initial proponents of the Granville Harbour Windfarm, realised during that Project’s planning that the region had many, if not all the capabilities and skills required to participate in this key regional initiative. However, there were gaps, regional capabilities in areas lacked depth, the coordination and perhaps the framework to fully participate. It was evident that a collective, coordinated state or regionally based effort, had potential but needed further development.
Westcoast Renewable Energy Pty Ltd (WRE) believed that with the immergence of a strong renewable energy opportunity in the region it was the ideal time for an industry focused regional body to begin engaging with local government, companies, and interest groups within the region. The Advance West North West Association was proposed and completed an extensive stakeholder engagement process. The Association’s aim was to understand the capabilities and interest that exist within our region, list and link suitable entities and provide early information on the commercial opportunities that may flow from regional projects. This aim was expanded to include a regional focus on industry and competency-based skill development, youth retention and workforce sustainability.
Our membership numbers and growing interest are proof the region’s desire for an industry-based solution to youth retention, skills development and greater more advanced project participation.
ADVANCE WEST NORTH WEST WILL HELP BUILD A DATABASE OF LOCAL CAPABILITY.
The Association’s intent is to develops a forum to highlight gaps and opportunities, support and link youth training and transitional skills with the regions growing requirement. As such AWNW will provide an important conduit between regional capabilities, training and upskilling opportunities and local business. Our focus is on supporting both current and emerging industry requirements.
